Avalon School of Music FAQ
We offer weekly music lessons, in a private studio, with the same instructor, at the same time of the day, on the same day of the week. Lessons are 30, 45 or 60 minutes long, and we assign homework after each lesson. Each student has an individual development plan designed to teach them how to play their chosen instrument, read sheet music, understand music theory, and perform at our recitals.
We can start music lessons as early as 4-5 years old, depending upon each childs individual development path. We generally recommend that a young student begins thier music lessons with piano lessons, and then branch out to other instruments once they have the basics understood.
We are open between:
2 PM to 8 PM on Monday through Friday
10 AM to 4 PM on Saturday
Times may vary slightly by location
To sign up for our free lesson, please contact our office manager at 972-429-0047 (tel:972 429 0047)(Wylie) or at 469-519-9911 (Allen), email Info@AvalonSchoolMusic.com,(mailto:info@ballardstreetmusic.com?subject=Free Meet & Greet Lesson Enquiry) or click the link below to self-book your lesson.

Generally, in case of a...

Student absence for Illness: Please provide a doctors note and a make-up class will be provided. Due to our instructors full schedules, you may be offered a group make-up class.

Student Absence for convenience: Refunds/credits will be given for a student absence if >24 hours notice is given. Make up credits expire 90 days after they are granted, and you may request 4 make up credits over a 90 day rolling period. All credit requests less than 24 hours are not given unless there are outstanding circumstances which is the discretion of the owner.

Instructor Absence: Substitute instructors will be available for lessons in the event of an instructor absence. If there is no substitute for the class, the student will receive a credit for the lesson missed and a makeup lesson will be provided. Credits given from Instructor Absences will expire after 180 days if not used.
Unfortunately we are unable to accommodate any request to schedule make-ups, process refunds, reduce the monthly tuition invoice or provide deferred lesson plans for missed lessons, vacations, or planned absences.
Since we teach lessons year round, we are unable to accommodate requests to hold time slots during planned summer breaks or extended vacations. To be fair to our instructors, all schedules are filled on a first come basis, so if you choose to stop taking lessons during the summer, your preferred instructor / day / time slot may not be available when you return in the Fall. If you wish to keep your preferred time slot with your instructor during the summer months, you can choose to pay your normal monthly tuition fee.
We take student safety seriously at Avalon School of Music and have multiple safeguards in place to create a secure, transparent environment.
Our facility is equipped with continuous video monitoring in all common areas and instructional studios. Every studio door includes a viewing window, allowing clear visibility from the lobby at all times. All instructors and staff members undergo background checks prior to employment.
Parents and guardians are always welcome to sit in on lessons if they choose.
We’re asked this question often, and the short answer is: age is not the deciding factor.
We have taught students in their 90s. What matters most is willingness, consistency, and basic physical ability (such as good to average hand coordination, depending on the instrument). If you have the desire to learn and are prepared to practice consistently, there is no reason not to begin.
Musical progress is driven far more by commitment than by age.
